A woman has died and a man is critically injured after a vehicle crashed into a bus shelter in Pickering, according to Durham Regional Police. The incident occurred around 2:30 p.m. on Wednesday, when a westbound vehicle on Kingston Road lost control and struck two pedestrians waiting at the shelter.

Const. Joanne Bortoluss confirmed that the victims did not know each other. Paramedics began transporting the woman by ambulance but requested Ornge air ambulance at Whites Road. Despite efforts, she died en route to the hospital after being airlifted from Highway 401. The second victim, a 26-year-old man, remains in critical condition at a Toronto trauma centre.

The driver remained at the scene and is cooperating with the ongoing investigation.
