Ontario’s Special Investigations Unit (SIU) is investigating a fatal crash involving a motorcycle and a vehicle in Madoc, Ont., north of Belleville.
The incident occurred Sunday night on Highway 7 after Ontario Provincial Police received reports around 8:30 p.m. of a vehicle driving erratically. An OPP officer heading eastbound spotted the westbound vehicle, which had also been reported for dangerous driving. As the officer followed, he came upon a crash involving the suspect vehicle and a motorcycle near Highway 7 and St. Lawrence Street West.
The 57-year-old motorcyclist was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver of the vehicle, a 19-year-old man, was not seriously injured.
The SIU, which investigates police actions resulting in death or serious injury, has taken over the case. The identity of the deceased has not been released.
