A serious head-on collision on Highway 15 near Elgin, Ontario, on Friday led to multiple injuries and criminal charges. The Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) responded to several reports of a two-vehicle crash just south of County Road 42 around noon.
Upon arrival, officers found that one vehicle carried two adults, while the other had two adults and an infant. All five individuals—two drivers and three passengers—sustained injuries. Both drivers remain in hospital with serious but stable injuries; the passengers, including the infant, are in stable condition.
During the investigation, police say a passenger from the first vehicle refused to identify themselves. A subsequent search uncovered a knife, about eight grams of suspected cocaine, and other drug-related items. The 39-year-old Ottawa resident was charged with obstructing a police officer, possession of a Schedule I substance for the purpose of trafficking, and assault. The individual is due in court on June 13.
Driving-related charges may still be laid against the driver of the first vehicle, as the investigation continues. The highway was closed for several hours between County Roads 42 and 9, reopening around 9 p.m. after collision reconstruction teams completed their work.
