A person using a wheelchair was struck and killed by a vehicle Tuesday morning on Industrial Avenue near Trainyards Drive in Ottawa’s east end. Ottawa police responded to the call at around 9:30 a.m., and the victim was pronounced dead at the scene. The road was closed for several hours for investigation and reopened by 3 p.m.

The investigation is in its early stages, with few details currently available. Local residents expressed concerns about the safety of Industrial Avenue, citing heavy truck and bus traffic.

This incident marks the second fatal pedestrian collision in Ottawa within 24 hours. Earlier that day, a man was killed and another seriously injured in a separate collision on Innes Road at Orchardview Avenue.

So far in 2024, Ottawa has recorded 218 pedestrian-involved collisions, including many at intersections and four-way stops. Safety advocates are urging drivers to remain alert and responsible, stressing the importance of vigilance to prevent such tragedies.
