Three people were seriously injured Monday afternoon when scaffolding collapsed near The Beaches in Toronto.
Emergency crews responded just before 1:45 p.m. to the area of Queen Street East and Victoria Park Avenue. According to Toronto Paramedic Services, three men sustained serious but non-life-threatening injuries and were transported to a trauma centre.
Update – The three injured individuals were workers doing roof repairs on a row of townhomes.
Trevor Shand, the contractor from GT Shand Contracting, confirmed that two workers fell approximately 18 to 20 feet. One sustained a head injury, and another sprained his wrist. The condition of the third worker was not disclosed. Shand noted visible damage to the scaffolding arms and suggested old equipment may have contributed to the failure.
Roofing work on the site, which has been ongoing for about a month, is now paused. Shand reported the incident to Ontario’s Ministry of Labour, which has since assigned an inspector to investigate.
