Niagara Regional Police say an officer shot at two Rottweiler dogs on Thursday afternoon after they were “aggressively mauling” a man. The incident occurred around 3 p.m. near Lundy’s Lane and Drummond Road.
Police were called after reports that the two unleashed Rottweilers, running loose without an owner, had attacked and killed a smaller dog and bitten a bystander. As officers were en route, they learned the dogs were attacking another person.
Upon arriving, officers saw the dogs mauling a lone man. Fearing for the victim’s safety and to prevent further harm to the public, an officer discharged their firearm to stop the attack.
The dogs were taken by the Humane Society, and the two victims received medical attention. The condition of the dogs is unknown, and the search for the owner is ongoing. The investigation continues.
