A 29-year-old man died Tuesday evening after a high-speed motorcycle crash in Rexdale near Kipling Avenue and Steeles Avenue West.
Toronto Police Acting Insp. Baheer Sarvanandan said the motorcyclist was traveling northbound on Kipling around 7 p.m. when he became separated from his bike and was trapped underneath a northbound TTC bus in the curb lane. The bus continued into the intersection, colliding with an eastbound vehicle. Despite life-saving efforts, the rider later died at a trauma centre.
The motorcycle was reportedly traveling at a high speed and was carried over 200 metres from the initial crash site. No one on the bus was injured, though the driver was traumatized.
Witnesses described hearing motorcycles speeding in the area before the crash and expressed concerns about dangerous riding habits. One recalled warning the rider months earlier about performing stunts.
This marks the 19th traffic fatality in Toronto this year, surpassing the number of shooting homicides, highlighting ongoing road safety concerns.
Steeles Avenue West (westbound) at Islington Avenue and Kipling Avenue (northbound) remain closed as collision reconstruction continues. Police are asking anyone with information to contact Traffic Services at 416-808-1900 or Crime Stoppers anonymously.
