Highway 6, connecting Espanola to Manitoulin Island, remains closed Thursday due to a serious two-vehicle collision near Hopkins Hill Road, south of Espanola. The crash involved a passenger vehicle and a commercial box van, injuring four people.
The road was shut down in both directions between Hopkins Hill Road and Merritt Township Road around 11 a.m., according to the Ministry of Transportation. One person was airlifted by ORNGE Air Ambulance, and the severity of injuries is still being assessed.
Police are advising against using Fox Lake Road as an alternate route, as it is narrow and poorly maintained. Earlier, a coach bus became stuck on this road, partially blocking it.
The closure is expected to last several hours, with updates to follow. Police said they would have a clearer idea of when the road will reopen after 1 p.m., depending on the severity of the injuries. The investigation is still in its early stages, and no charges have been announced.
