One person is dead following a head-on collision between two transport trucks early Friday morning on Highway 17 in Sudbury. The crash occurred around 1:15 a.m., according to Ontario Provincial Police (OPP).

The second driver was taken to hospital with serious but non-life-threatening injuries. The highway remains closed in both directions between the Highway 69 junction and the Kingsway.

OPP’s collision reconstructionist and traffic investigation team are working to determine the cause. The names of the drivers have not been released.

Update – Highway 17 reopened at around 7 p.m.
