A 24-year-old motorcyclist died following a collision with a pickup truck on the Gardiner Expressway in Etobicoke on Friday evening.
Emergency services responded around 7:45 p.m. to a crash in the eastbound express lanes near Islington Avenue. According to Acting Inspector Todd Jocko, multiple motorcycles were heading east when one of them, for reasons still unclear, collided with the rear of a pickup truck.
The motorcyclist was thrown from his bike and suffered fatal injuries. Despite paramedics’ efforts, he was pronounced dead at the scene. The pickup truck driver, a 52-year-old woman, remained at the location and cooperated with authorities.
Police have yet to determine the cause of the crash. The eastbound express lanes were closed for several hours during the investigation, but has since reopened 6:30 a.m on Saturday.
