Highway 401 westbound in Scarborough has reopened after a fiery crash involving a tow truck transporting a tractor-trailer.
The incident occurred around 1 a.m. when the tow truck driver crashed into the crash cushion separating the express and collector lanes. This caused the tractor-trailer to roll over and catch fire. The tow truck driver sustained non-life-threatening injuries and was taken to the hospital.
The driver has been charged with careless driving. The crash caused the closure of westbound collector lanes and the transfer to the express lanes from Morningside Avenue to Neilson Road. The collector lanes reopened by 9:30 a.m., but the left collector lane and the transfer remained closed for cleanup.
By noon, the area was fully reopened to traffic.
