Ontario Provincial Police are investigating a suspicious fire that caused approximately $1 million in damage at the Medatech Engineering complex in Collingwood. The fire broke out around 3 a.m. on Monday at the facility located on Sandford Fleming Drive in the town’s east end.

Initially, the fire was believed to have started in a storage shed at the northeast corner of the property, and the cause was considered non-suspicious. However, later that morning, fire officials discovered surveillance footage that raised concerns about the fire’s origin. As a result, the OPP crime unit has taken over the investigation.

Authorities are asking residents and businesses to review any surveillance footage, including dash camera recordings, from the area between midnight and 3 a.m. on Monday. Anyone who may have seen suspicious activity or individuals in the vicinity of Sandford Fleming Drive is urged to contact the OPP at 1-888-310-1122.
