A house fire in Ajax left one person dead late Friday night. Durham Regional Police responded around 11 p.m. to a home near Taunton Road East and Salem Road North after receiving reports of an armed man threatening his family.
Upon arrival, officers found the house on fire. Emergency crews evacuated several people from the home and nearby residences. One person was later found dead inside. No other injuries were reported.
The victim’s identity has not been released. Drone footage shows the home’s roof collapsed due to the fire. The cause and origin of the fire remain unknown.
