Ontario Provincial Police are investigating a multi-vehicle crash on Highway 28 in Bancroft that sent five people to hospital on Wednesday afternoon. The collision, which occurred around 3:30 p.m. between Bronson and Detlor roads, involved two passenger vehicles and a motorcycle. Injuries ranged from minor to life-threatening.

Investigators believe the crash may have been triggered by a muffler that detached from a vehicle and landed on the roadway. Technical Collision Investigators and Reconstructionists were called to the scene, and the highway was closed for several hours before reopening.

Police are urging drivers to regularly inspect and maintain their vehicles to prevent similar incidents. Anyone who witnessed the collision or has dashcam footage is encouraged to contact Bancroft OPP at 1-888-310-1122 or submit an anonymous tip through Crime Stoppers.
