An 18-year-old from Blind River is facing several charges after allegedly stealing a pickup truck while impaired and later crashing it on Highway 17.

The incident began around 1:30 a.m. on July 27 when Ontario Provincial Police received a report of a black pickup taken without consent from a garage on Huron Avenue. Less than an hour later, officers responded to a single-vehicle crash involving the same truck on Highway 17 in Algoma Mills.

Police determined the driver had been drinking and took him into custody. It was confirmed that the suspect and the vehicle owner knew each other.

The teen now faces charges for impaired driving, taking a vehicle without consent, and multiple driving-related offences, including operating without a licence, insurance, permit, or plates. His licence was suspended for 90 days, and the vehicle was impounded for a week. He is set to appear in court in Elliot Lake on October 2.
