A large fire in Hawkesbury, Ontario, has caused extensive damage and prompted evacuations from nearby homes. The blaze erupted around 10 a.m. Monday at a condo development under construction on Nelson Street East.
Police were dispatched to assist firefighters, closing off several streets in the area, including Nelson Street East, Higginson Street, and Regent Street at William Street. As a precaution, nearby residents were evacuated, and victim services were on-site to assist those affected.
No one was injured in the fire, which destroyed two buildings at the construction site. Investigators are looking into the cause, though it’s not believed to be suspicious. Fire crews remain at the scene, and the area around Nelson Street East remains blocked off.
