A 19-year-old driver from Ottawa is facing multiple charges after allegedly fleeing police and striking two OPP officers during a late-night incident in the city’s west end.
The Ontario Provincial Police reported that around 11:10 p.m. Friday, their aerial unit spotted a large car gathering near Moodie Drive, Alti Place, and Dibble Road. One vehicle was seen performing dangerous maneuvers, prompting a police response.
When officers attempted to intervene, a vehicle fled the scene, hitting two officers in the process. The OPP aircraft tracked the fleeing car, allowing ground units from the Ottawa detachment to eventually stop the driver. The two officers sustained minor injuries.
The 19-year-old now faces several charges, including assaulting peace officers with a weapon, dangerous driving, fleeing police, racing, performing a stunt, obstructing and failing to display licence plates, and having cannabis readily accessible in the vehicle. As a result, their licence has been suspended for 30 days and the vehicle impounded for 14 days.
Another driver at the scene, who complied with police, is also facing Highway Traffic Act charges.
