A dog attack on the Oneida Nation of the Thames is under investigation after a 71-year-old resident was injured and their dog was killed. The incident occurred Tuesday around 8 p.m. on Bodkin Road while the resident was walking their pet. Two off-leash pit bulls, reportedly without an owner nearby, attacked them.

The resident managed to return home and call for help. When police arrived, one of the pit bulls charged at officers, prompting an officer to fire their weapon to stop the threat. The victim was taken to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. Tragically, their dog did not survive the attack.

Police are urging pet owners to ensure their animals are properly leashed and contained. Anyone with information is encouraged to contact Middlesex OPP or Crime Stoppers.
