A tanker truck that fell into a sinkhole in Toronto’s Weston neighborhood was successfully removed after more than six hours of effort.
The incident occurred early Tuesday morning, shortly after 8 a.m., when Toronto Fire Services responded to reports of a structural collapse at 2360 Weston Rd., near St. Phillips Road. The collapse involved an underground parking garage at a high-rise building.
Chopper footage around noon showed the truck nearly fully submerged in the sinkhole, wedged between two residential buildings. Fortunately, no one was trapped, and there were no reported injuries.
Firefighters worked to stabilize the scene, while engineers and building inspectors monitored the structural integrity of the affected high-rise. By 2:45 p.m., crews successfully extracted the sewage truck with the assistance of a large tow truck. As of now, both northbound and southbound lanes of Weston Road, between St. Phillips Road and Oak Street, remain closed.
