A major fire broke out on Drew Street in North Bay early Thursday morning, causing significant damage to the second floor of a multi-residential building. The fire department received the call at around 5 a.m. and crews arrived within four minutes, according to Deputy Fire Chief Greg Saunders.

Saunders confirmed that the fire was quickly extinguished, though it caused extensive damage on the second floor. Firefighters were able to contain the blaze while conducting a thorough search of the building to ensure all residents safely evacuated. There were no injuries reported.

The fire prevention division is investigating the cause of the fire, and Saunders noted that working smoke alarms were present in the building. He emphasized the importance of properly maintained and placed smoke alarms, stating they can provide life-saving warnings in emergencies.
