Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) have shared dashcam footage of a dangerous driving incident on Highway 401 in Milton, where a driver was seen traveling in the wrong direction, narrowly avoiding a collision before crashing into a light pole and fleeing on foot.

The video, posted on social media, captures the event, which occurred around 6 p.m. on September 7 near James Snow Parkway. It shows the vehicle traveling eastbound in the westbound lanes, narrowly missing oncoming traffic. OPP Sgt. Kerry Schmidt emphasized that the situation could have easily turned fatal.

Police later identified the driver as a 21-year-old man from Toronto, who sideswiped several cars before crashing into a light pole. After fleeing on foot, he was apprehended by Mississauga OPP shortly afterward.

The man is now facing multiple charges, including dangerous driving, failure to remain at the scene, and driving the wrong way on a divided highway. Authorities are also investigating whether he was impaired during the incident.

Although no injuries were reported, police are urging the public to immediately call 911 if they witness dangerous driving on the roads. The driver’s identity has not been released.
