A family of 10 has been displaced following a house fire in Pembroke on Sunday morning. The fire broke out just after 10 a.m. at a residence on Wallace Street, starting at the back of the home and quickly spreading to a bedroom and approaching the attic.

Initially, one fire truck and the duty crew responded, but additional resources were called in, and a total of 13 career firefighters and 10 volunteers attended the scene with five fire apparatuses.

Firefighters were initially told that one family member might still be inside, but it was later confirmed that everyone had safely escaped, thanks to working smoke alarms that alerted the residents.

One person was transported to Pembroke Regional Hospital for assessment, while two others were evaluated on-site.

The home was severely damaged by smoke and heat, and the Canadian Red Cross has been called to assist the family. The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
