A tragic accident in Guelph on Friday claimed the life of a 38-year-old woman. The incident occurred around 5 p.m. at the intersection of Paisley Road and Alma Street North when she, her husband, and their three-year-old daughter, who was in a stroller, were struck by a pickup truck while crossing the street.
All three were rushed to Guelph General Hospital, where the woman later succumbed to her injuries. Her husband was unharmed, while the young girl was airlifted to a trauma center in Hamilton as a precaution. Fortunately, she was released later that evening.
The driver, a 19-year-old from Northern Ontario, remained at the scene and was not injured. Police have not yet announced any charges and are continuing to investigate the incident. Update – On Friday September 26th, Guelph Police charged the 19-year-old pickup truck driver with careless driving causing death and two counts of careless driving causing bodily harm. He is scheduled to appear in court on December 17.
