A 66-year-old woman from Guelph is facing a careless driving charge after she drove through an active police investigation scene on Paisley Road and Alma Street North.
Despite officers yelling for her to stop, she bypassed barricades and police vehicles, ultimately crashing into a tripod-mounted 3D scanner used by investigators. The collision rendered the equipment unusable, causing an estimated $100,000 in damage.
The area had been closed off as police investigated the recent death of a 38-year-old woman, who was struck along with two family members by a pickup truck while crossing the intersection. The site is also the focus of a petition calling for pedestrian safety improvements.
