A child riding a scooter was seriously injured after being struck by a car near Parliament and Shuter streets in downtown Toronto around 5:45 p.m., according to police.

Security footage from a nearby business shows a scooter rider colliding with the door of a parked SUV as the driver opens it. The impact throws the rider into oncoming traffic, prompting nearby pedestrians to rush over and assist.
