A serious two-vehicle crash on Highway 40 north of Chatham sent six people to hospital Wednesday afternoon, including an 80-year-old Chatham-Kent resident who sustained life-threatening injuries. The incident occurred around 3:46 p.m. and prompted a response from OPP, Chatham-Kent Fire, and EMS.
The 87-year-old driver of the same vehicle suffered serious but non-life-threatening injuries. In the second vehicle, the 67-year-old driver and three passengers—aged 41, 19, and 14, all from Lambton County—were taken to hospital with minor injuries.
The OPP’s Technical Collision Investigation and Traffic Incident Management teams assisted at the scene. Highway 40 was closed for several hours but has since reopened.
The investigation remains ongoing, and police are asking anyone with information to contact them or Crime Stoppers anonymously.
