A 20-year-old man from Kapuskasing is facing seven charges after fleeing from police on an ATV during an attempted traffic stop on October 3.
Around 9 p.m., James Bay OPP responded to a report of a possibly impaired ATV driver in a Government Road parking lot. When officers located the vehicle and attempted to stop it, the driver allegedly sped off, spinning tires and crashing through a pylon and fencing before entering Government Road at high speed.
Police arrested the driver shortly afterward. Although no signs of impairment were found, he is charged with multiple offences, including fleeing from police, dangerous driving, stunt driving, and interfering with highway fixtures. Additional charges include failing to follow traffic direction, improper road entry, and not displaying a valid plate.
He has been released and is scheduled to appear in court on November 17. His driver’s licence has been suspended for 30 days. The charges have not yet been proven in court.
