A suspect involved in a home invasion in Vaughan early Wednesday morning is in custody following a serious crash shortly after fleeing the scene, according to York Regional Police.

The incident occurred around 4:15 a.m. near Pine Valley Drive and Teston Road. Police say at least three suspects left the scene in a Hyundai pickup truck, while another suspect fled in a vehicle stolen from the residence.

Shortly after, the pickup truck was involved in a single-vehicle crash near Teston Road and Cityview Boulevard. The vehicle burst into flames following the crash. The driver, a male youth, sustained a serious but non-life-threatening leg injury and was taken to hospital. Two other occupants of the truck reportedly fled on foot, and the K9 unit was deployed to assist in locating them. They remain at large.

The injured youth is facing charges related to the home invasion. No injuries were reported among the residents of the targeted home. The investigation is still in its early stages, and police have not released details about the stolen vehicle.
