Roofers managed to contain a fire Tuesday morning after flames broke out on the roof of a two-storey home on Barrie Street in Thornton.
Essa Deputy Fire Chief Gary McNamara said the fire started while workers were using a finishing torch to repair the back section of the roof, igniting nearby materials. The roofers extinguished the flames before firefighters arrived.
One worker sustained minor burns to a hand, while another declined medical treatment. Crews later inspected the attic and surrounding areas to confirm the fire hadn’t spread. Damage is estimated at less than $5,000.
