A home in Overbrook sustained structural damage Monday afternoon after a cargo van crashed into its garage on Queen Mary Street near Vera Street, according to Ottawa Fire Services. The incident occurred around 4:46 p.m. when the van drove through a cedar hedge and struck the front of a two-storey house.

Firefighters confirmed no one was inside the home and that the driver, who was alone, safely exited the vehicle. Structural damage was found on the west side of the garage, where an I-beam had lost support after a post was displaced. The Structural Collapse Team stabilized the area and installed temporary supports before removing the van.

A city engineer was called to assess the damage, and power was cut as a precaution. Police said no injuries occurred, and the driver received a provincial offence notice under the Highway Traffic Act.
