A man has been hospitalized with life-threatening injuries after his SUV collided with a backhoe tractor early Friday in North York.
The crash occurred around 2:40 a.m. near Weston Road and Fenmar Drive. Police say the driver of a Mitsubishi RVR was travelling at high speed leading up to the crash. The driver was trapped inside the vehicle and had to be extricated before being taken to hospital on an emergency run.
The construction vehicle’s driver was also treated in hospital for non-life-threatening injuries.
Weston Road remains closed in both directions between Fenmar Drive and Toryork Drive as police continue their investigation.
Update – The driver, identified as a 40-year-old man, has succumbed to his injuries. The driver of the backhoe tractor, a 46-year-old man, sustained minor injuries from the collision.
