A 56-year-old North Bay man faces impaired driving charges after a rear-end crash on Highway 17 in Bonfield Township, following a tip from an off-duty Ontario Provincial Police officer.
Around 7:15 p.m. on October 30, the off-duty officer reported a vehicle swerving and nearly entering a ditch while heading east toward Mattawa. About 15 minutes later, the same vehicle struck another from behind in Bonfield Township.
Responding officers determined the driver had been under the influence of an intoxicating substance. He was taken into custody for testing and later charged with impaired driving and following too closely.
Police also imposed a 90-day licence suspension and a seven-day vehicle impound. The accused was released and is scheduled to appear in North Bay court on December 16.
