Ontario Provincial Police are urging drivers to slow down and use caution during snowy conditions after a series of collisions in Essex County on Sunday.
Within just five hours, emergency crews responded to 20 crashes as snow moved through the region. Two Essex County OPP officers sustained minor injuries when their patrol vehicle was rear-ended while they were providing emergency lighting at one of the crash scenes.
The two officers were blocking a lane of traffic to assist emergency crews responding to several crashes on Highway 401. Both were taken to hospital for treatment.
According to police, the first collision was reported at 3:12 p.m., and the final call came in at 8:45 p.m. No serious injuries were reported in any of the incidents. All 20 incidents are still under investigation.
