Ontario Provincial Police shut down a 30-kilometre section of Highway 402’s eastbound lanes Monday evening due to hazardous weather and poor road conditions.

The closure, stretching from Oil Heritage Road to Kerwood Road, expanded an earlier shutdown that began around 3 p.m. after a collision north of Watford involving two transport trucks, one of which jackknifed. No serious injuries were reported.

Snow squalls blowing off Lake Huron created whiteout conditions across Lambton and Middlesex counties, making driving treacherous. Around 7 p.m., Lambton OPP said the highway would remain closed for several hours to clear vehicles and ensure the roadway was safe.

Police are advising motorists to avoid the area and postpone non-essential travel until conditions improve.
