Two people were injured Tuesday after a fire broke out at the Energy Court encampment in Sudbury, sparked by propane heaters being used to keep warm. Deputy Fire Chief Jesse Oshell said the heaters ignited a tent and nearby materials, leaving one person seriously burned and hospitalized.
Fire officials have repeatedly cautioned against using propane heaters inside tents due to the high risk of fire. The Energy Court encampment, located near a city-run overnight warming centre inside the former safe consumption site, has seen growth as colder weather sets in.
