An 18-year-old man is facing charges after a high-speed collision in Windsor’s east end late Friday caused significant damage and a brief blackout.

Police responded around 11:30 p.m. to a crash at Tecumseh Road East and Central Avenue. Investigators say dash-cam footage showed a grey Mercedes speeding eastbound, weaving between vehicles, and accelerating through an amber light before crashing into a sedan turning south.

The impact sent the Mercedes off the road and into a utility pole, setting off a transformer blast. Although no injuries were reported, the damaged pole cut power to the surrounding neighbourhood for about three hours. Residents described the area as completely dark until ENWIN Utilities restored electricity, though some businesses continued to face internet and payment issues Saturday morning.

Officers arrested the teen driver at the scene. He is now charged with dangerous operation of a vehicle and is already known to police for a stunt driving offence earlier in 2025.
