A 63-year-old commercial transport driver from Plummer Additional Township has been charged after a cyclist was killed in a collision Monday on Highway 17 in Blind River.
Emergency crews were called to Causley Street around 5:15 p.m., where an eastbound transport truck had struck a cyclist. The victim was pronounced dead at the scene. Police say the truck driver did not stop and continued east on Highway 17.
Officers located the vehicle shortly afterward in Algoma Mills, arrested the driver, and had the truck towed. Charges include failing to stop at a fatal collision and dangerous driving causing death. The accused was expected to appear in Blind River bail court on Tuesday.
The highway remained closed for several hours during the investigation. Police are asking anyone who witnessed the crash or has dash-cam footage to contact the OPP.
