A white Jeep stolen from a home on London Road in Sarnia Friday evening led to the arrest of a suspect days later. The theft occurred around 7:15 p.m., and a patrol officer spotted the vehicle about 45 minutes later near London Line and Modeland Road. Before additional units arrived, the Jeep drove off.
The officer followed the vehicle until it stopped and attempted to block it in, but police say the driver accelerated into the side of the cruiser, then fled again, knocking down a mailbox in the process. Officers did not continue the pursuit for safety reasons.
The Jeep was found shortly before 1 a.m. on London Line. A search of the vehicle turned up the suspect’s wallet and identification, allowing police to confirm who they were looking for. He was arrested on Nov. 29 and charged with motor vehicle theft and breaching probation. He has since been remanded into custody following a bail hearing.
