A large overnight fire that damaged 30 units in a Hawkesbury apartment building is now being treated as suspected arson, according to Ontario Provincial Police. The blaze broke out late Saturday and continued into early Sunday at 810 Portelance Avenue.
While smoke affected several residents, everyone was safely evacuated. Three people were treated in hospital for minor injuries. County officials said staff and the Red Cross worked quickly to support and relocate displaced tenants.
County warden Yves Laviolette commended emergency crews for their response as the investigation into the cause of the fire continues.
