An early morning fire destroyed a standalone trailer in Fort William First Nation and claimed two lives early Saturday. Thunder Bay Fire Rescue arrived on Squaw Bay Road shortly after 3 a.m. to find the trailer fully engulfed and deployed four pumpers along with the platoon chief to contain the blaze.

Once the fire was knocked down, crews discovered two deceased individuals inside. Investigators from the Anishinabek Police Service, the OPP, and Ontario’s Office of the Fire Marshal were on-site Sunday to examine the scene, though the cause has not yet been identified.

Authorities emphasized the importance of functioning smoke alarms and careful use of candles, while police are urging anyone with relevant information to contact 1-888-310-1122.
