Guelph police are looking for a man who fled a traffic stop after officers responded to a suspicious vehicle call that put two young children at risk and resulted in damage to a police cruiser.
Around 7:45 p.m. Friday, officers arrived in the Speedvale Avenue East area and found a man asleep in the driver’s seat with two children in car seats behind him. He reportedly said he had driven a friend to the location and was waiting for her return.
During the investigation, the man allegedly reversed into a police cruiser, causing minor damage, and then sped away. The vehicle was later discovered near Victoria Road North and Brant Avenue. The children were safely found in a nearby home, but the driver has not yet been located.

Update – Police located and arrested the suspect on Wednesday, December 10, after a short pursuit. The 48-year-old Guelph man now faces multiple charges, including dangerous driving, evading and obstructing police, carrying a concealed weapon, drug possession, two probation violations, and four breaches of existing bail conditions.
