Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) are investigating a fatal pedestrian-vehicle crash in Timmins that occurred on Monday. The accident happened shortly after 6 p.m. at the intersection of Highway 655 and Ross Avenue East.

Initial response came from the Timmins Police Service, who described the incident as a serious collision. Drivers were advised to avoid the area and find alternate routes to allow emergency responders to work safely.

The scene was closed off overnight as emergency crews conducted their work. By 4:30 a.m. the following day, Timmins police confirmed that the highway had been reopened after investigators had completed their work.

The OPP’s South Porcupine Detachment later took over the investigation and confirmed that a 79-year-old individual, who had been transported to the hospital, later died from injuries sustained in the crash. Police are continuing to investigate and are asking anyone with information, including dashcam footage from the time of the incident, to come forward.
