A small plane crash near Sarnia Friday night left a young pilot with only minor injuries. Emergency crews were called around 9:25 p.m. to the area of Michigan Line and Blackwell Road after reports of an aircraft down.

Police say the 21-year-old pilot, who was alone in the plane, managed to escape the wreckage by climbing out through the windshield. She was found with the help of a passing motorist who stopped to assist. Paramedics treated her at the scene before taking her to hospital for cuts and bruises.

The aircraft, a Cessna 172N that had departed from the Waterloo Wellington Flight Centre, is now part of an ongoing investigation by Transport Canada to determine what caused the crash.
