Police are advising drivers to use extra caution on Highway 11 in Severn Township after two collisions affected traffic from late Wednesday night into Thursday morning.
The first incident occurred just before midnight Wednesday near Soules Road, when a tractor-trailer lost control, jackknifed, and left the roadway near the Menoke Beach Road exit. The truck struck a telephone pole, bringing down power lines and forcing the closure of all northbound lanes overnight. No injuries were reported, and investigators have not confirmed whether weather played a role.
A second collision happened Thursday around 7:30 a.m. in the northbound lanes near Telford Line, north of Soules Road. Police say a pickup truck struck a passenger vehicle after colliding with an unoccupied, disabled vehicle that had been left in the left lane. The reason the vehicle was in the fast lane remains unknown. One person was taken to hospital with injuries that have not been detailed, and crews were still working to clear the scene.
Authorities continue to monitor the area and are reminding motorists to slow down and remain alert while traveling through the affected stretch of highway.
