A 65-year-old pedestrian from Vaughan was killed and two others were injured—one critically—after a two-vehicle crash in Richmond Hill on Thursday that struck three people on a sidewalk.

York Regional Police said the collision occurred around 4:10 p.m. at Major Mackenzie Drive and Leslie Street. Upon arrival, officers found the three pedestrians on the sidewalk; one was pronounced dead at the scene, another was hospitalized with life-threatening injuries, and the third sustained non-life-threatening injuries.

Police noted that a light standard was knocked down during the crash, but it is unclear whether it contributed to the injuries or which vehicle struck the pedestrians. Both drivers remained at the scene, and there is no indication that impaired driving was involved.

Investigators are still in the early stages of the probe, and authorities are notifying next of kin while respecting the privacy of the victims.
