A crash early Sunday morning on Highway 11 west of Kapuskasing resulted in three fatalities. The collision, involving a tractor-trailer and a pick-up truck, occurred around 12:30 a.m. between Chauvette Road and Hyundair Road in Opasatika Township.
The pick-up truck contained four people— a 41-year-old, a 15-year-old, and a 12-year-old were killed at the scene, while the driver sustained non-life-threatening injuries and was taken to the hospital. The driver of the tractor-trailer was not hurt.
Highway 11 remains closed in both directions between Cochrane and Hearst. Authorities are working to assist drivers stranded by the closure. The cause of the crash is still under investigation, with the Office of the Chief Coroner for Ontario and multiple OPP units involved in the ongoing inquiry.
