A 28-year-old Windsor man has been charged with impaired driving after a woman was critically injured in a collision early Sunday morning. Windsor police were called to a parking lot at Remington Booster Park shortly after 4 a.m. following reports of an injured person.

Officers arrived to find a woman pinned beneath the tire of a white Chevrolet Equinox. Emergency responders freed her and provided urgent medical care before she was taken to hospital, where she remains in critical condition with life-threatening injuries.

Police say the driver, identified as Lowhya Lako, showed signs of impairment, including a strong smell of alcohol, and later failed a breath test at police headquarters. He has been charged with impaired operation causing bodily harm and impaired operation with a blood alcohol concentration over the legal limit causing bodily harm.

A second 28-year-old man at the scene was also arrested on an outstanding warrant related to mischief under $5,000. The Traffic Reconstruction Unit initially investigated the crash, and the Major Crimes Unit is now leading the case. Anyone with information is asked to contact Windsor police.
