A 37-year-old Guelph man has been charged following an alleged assault and impaired driving incident in a parking lot Saturday night. Police were called to an apartment complex on Willow Road shortly after 8:30 p.m. after a report that a resident had backed into another vehicle. An argument followed, during which one man reported being grabbed by the neck.
According to police, the suspect briefly went inside the building before returning to his vehicle and attempting to leave. Officers stopped him and noted a strong smell of alcohol, along with open beer containers inside the car. Testing later confirmed he was over the legal alcohol limit.
The man now faces charges of impaired driving, careless driving, and assault causing bodily harm. His licence was suspended for 90 days, and his vehicle was impounded for a week.
