A 19-year-old woman is facing impaired driving charges after a car ended up on the rail tracks at Etobicoke North GO Station in Toronto’s west end and was struck by a train. Police say the incident happened Wednesday night before 10:10 p.m. near Kipling Avenue and Highway 409.
Emergency crews responded to the scene, leading to major disruptions on the GO Transit Kitchener line, with delays and service cancellations as police investigated. UP Express service was also temporarily suspended between Union Station and Pearson Airport.
The woman driving the vehicle was arrested and treated for injuries that were not considered serious. A male passenger was also in the car but was not hurt. Paramedics transported one person to hospital with serious injuries, though police confirmed no injuries among train passengers.
