A semi-truck driver has been charged after colliding with a snow plow on Highway 17 in northwestern Ontario.
Ontario Provincial Police in Kenora say the crash happened around 8 p.m. on January 11 in the Clearwater Bay area. At the time, the plow was actively clearing the highway when the transport truck attempted to pass on the right, striking the plow’s wing and disabling the equipment.
No serious injuries were reported. The 56-year-old truck driver has been charged with careless driving under the Highway Traffic Act.
Police are reminding motorists that snow plow operators work in dangerous winter conditions and that attempting to pass active plows can be extremely hazardous. Drivers are being urged to slow down, maintain extra distance, and give plows the space needed to keep roadways safe, especially during poor weather and reduced visibility.
